Hedge Trimmers
When you are looking for hedge trimmers there are a few different types you can choose from, there is the petrol driven type, battery powered, or the electric mains powered type.
Probably the most popular type for home users is the electrical type, there is a wide selection of manufactures to choose from these days all with varying price ranges.
Finding the right one for you can be a bit daunting, so here we have information to help you make a decision on which style would be best for you.
You should do your research online before you make your decision on which one to buy, this makes the process much easier by having all the information in front of you.
One great tip is always look at the size of your shrubs that needs trimming before you decide, as there are many different sizes available you need to make sure you get the right one.
If your hedge is high and wide you should look at purchasing a long reach type of trimmer, this will make the job of cutting much easier to do and possibly save you having to use a set of ladders to reach the top.
Another great choice is the cordless type, this type is perfect if your hedge is extremely long as there is no need to run electric cables all over your garden in order to operate it.
Quite simply the cordless types run off a battery, and will give you thirty minutes of cutting power on one full charge on average.
There is a drawback with this type though, and that is after approximately thirty minutes of cutting the battery will need re-charging, which can take up to three to four hours.
There is one solution to this problem, when you purchase your cordless hedge trimmers make sure you buy an extra battery at the same time.
This will allow you to cut using one battery while the other battery is on charge, simply change the battery over when it is flat.
This would give you a total of approximately one hour of cutting time depending how big and how thick the branches you are cutting, this should give you plenty of time to trim the average garden hedge in one go.
There will be the extra charge for the extra battery to consider but this is minimal compared to the time you will save cutting, the cordless types are light and agile, and used with two batteries is the ideal choice for a gardener to trim his garden shrubs.
If you have a very long and very thick garden hedge then you should consider buying petrol driven machines, this cuts out the need for electric cables when cutting.

The common types of petrol trimmer are two stroke petrol, so you should factor in buying petrol when making your decision.
Using a petrol trimmer gives you that little bit more freedom of movement when cutting, also you do not have any electric cable getting in the way while you are cutting.
They are also the ideal choice if the branches are over 3/8" or 10mm thick, as the petrol versions are a bit more powerful than the electric units.
Some models of petrol trimmer are quite capable of cutting through branches 3/4 " or 20mm thick, but these types are generally used by commercial gardeners, but the general public can still buy this type of trimmer if needed.
For the cutting of your average garden hedge I would go for easy to use cordless types with an extra battery, and any thicker branches I come across I would use a strong pair of hand shears designed for cutting thicker branches or a saw to cut through them.
So when you are thinking of buying hedge trimmers then consider the size of your hedge and the length of your garden before you make your choice, and it is important to always read the manufactures safety guidelines before using which ever types you choose.
On this site you will find a wide choice of different makes at very reasonable prices, hopefully by reading the information and advice available here you will be able to make an informed decision on which types would be best for you to purchase.
