HEDGE TRIMMERS
When you are looking for hedge trimmers there are a few different types you can choose from, there is the petrol driven type, gasoline driven type, or electrical powered type.
Probably the most popular type for home users is the electrical type hedge trimmers, there is a variety of manufactures to choose from all with different price ranges. You can do some reseach online before you make your decision on which one to buy, you should also look at the size of your hedge that needs trimming before you decide as there are different sizes of hedge trimmers available.
If your hedge is tall and wide you should look at purchasing a long reach type of hedge trimmer, this will make the job of cutting your hedge much easier to do, you will also need to buy an electrical extension cable to give you the reach to get to your hedge.
Another great choice of hedge trimmer is the cordless hedge trimmer, this type is perfect if your hedge is extremely long as there is no need to run electric cables all over your garden in order to operate it.
Quite simply the cordless hedge trimmer runs of a battery, and will give you thirty minutes of cutting power on one full charge on average. There is a drawback with this type of trimmer though, and that is after approximately thirty minutes of cutting the battery will need re-charging, which can take up to three to four hours.
There is one solution to this problem, when you purchase your cordless hedge trimmer make sure you buy an extra battery at the same time. This will allow you to cut your hedge using one battery while the other battery is on charge, simply change the battery over when it is flat.
This would give you a total of approximately one hour of cutting time for your hedge depending how big and how thick the branches are you are cutting, this should give you plenty of time to trim the average garden hedge in one go.
There will be the extra charge for the extra battery to consider but this is minimal compared to the time you will save cutting your hedge, the cordless hedge trimmer is light and agile, and used with two batteries is the ideal choice for a gardener to trim his garden hedge.
If you have a very long and very thick garden hedge then you should consider buying petrol driven hedge trimmers, this cuts out the need for electric cables when cutting your hedge, the common types of petrol trimmer are two stroke petrol, so you should factor in buying petrol when making your decision. Using a petrol trimmer gives you a little bit more freedom of movement when cutting your hedge, also you do not have any electric cable to worry about when in operation.
They are also the ideal choice if the branches in your hedge are over 3/8" or 10mm thick, as the petrol hedge trimmer is a bit more powerful than the electric trimmers. Some model of petrol trimmer are quite capable of cutting through branches 3/4 " or 20mm thick, but these types are generally used by commercial gardeners, but the general public can still buy this type of trimmer if needed to cut there hedge.
For the cutting of your average garden hedge I would go for an easy to use cordless hedge trimmer with an extra battery, and any thicker branches I come across I would use a strong pair of hand shears designed for cutting thicker branches or a saw to cut through them.
So when you are thinking of buying hedge trimmers then consider the size of your hedge and the length of your garden before you make your choice, and it is important to always read the manufactures safety guidlines before using which ever hedge trimmers you choose.
